How it works

Three parties are involved, and it helps to know which one is responsible for what when something looks wrong.

The agent

A small program that runs on your machine as the user flotera-agent. It does two things:

• Sends what it sees. GPU temperatures, power draw, memory, disks, network — on a schedule, over HTTPS.
• Waits for instructions. It keeps one connection open to Flotera and receives commands on it: set a fan policy, change a power limit, reboot, update the driver.

Commands are confirmed by the agent, not assumed. When you press Reboot in the panel, the panel shows the command as sent, then as accepted, then as done. A command the machine never received never shows as done.

Offline is a 5-minute verdict, not instant

The agent checks in continuously. If nothing arrives for 300 seconds, the machine is marked offline. This delay is deliberate: a machine that briefly loses its network should not page you, and a machine that is genuinely gone should not stay green.

The panel

Where you see and change things. It holds no secrets of its own: every permission is checked on the server, so nothing you can reach in the browser grants you access the account does not already have.

Your marketplace API keys are stored encrypted and are never displayed again after you enter them. Flotera uses them to read your listings and to apply changes you make.

The marketplaces

Vast.ai and Clore.ai own the rental itself. They match your machine to a renter, hold the payment and take their commission.

Flotera reads their side continuously, so a rental that starts there shows up here within a couple of minutes — with the rate, and an estimate of what it will pay. It does not guess: the rental is reported because the marketplace reported it.

One machine is rented out by one marketplace at a time. Listing the same machine in two places means both can rent it, and the second renter gets a machine that is already busy.

What happens to your money

Nothing passes through Flotera. The marketplace pays you directly, on its own schedule and to its own payout method.

What Flotera does is count: it records each rental with the currency and the exchange rate that applied at the time, subtracts the marketplace’s commission for that specific marketplace and currency, and shows you the result by day and by machine.
